David I. “Sexy Man” Muir
David I. Muir is a photo artist, author, entrepreneur and community leader. His special love for candid, cultural and lifestyle photography inspires his work and is a signature component of his art collections, many of which have been displayed in exhibitions at home and abroad. He also is president of Island Syndicate, a multiple-award winning creative services agency specializing in photography, publishing and multimedia services. Additionally, he co-founded Island SPACE, a nonprofit organization that promotes excellence in arts and culture projects representing the Caribbean in South Florida and the extended diaspora.
Muir is a natural leader who has served his community in various capacities over the years. He has served on multiple local advisory boards, including nonprofits and arts organizations. He is known as a regular contributor to the Fort Lauderdale art scene with the shows he curates, often conducting seminars for aspiring journalists and photographers. He also teaches photography at Broward College and mentors fledgling photographers.
He has been recognized as one of South Florida’s 100 Most Accomplished Caribbean Americans by ICABA, and for his artistic contributions by the cities of Sunrise and Lauderhill. Muir has received multiple award nominations for his work in photography and been awarded Photo Journalist of the Year by the Black-Owned Media Alliance. He also has been awarded for service to the artist community of Little Haiti in Miami. A selected photo artist for the worldwide project “Inside Out,” representing Broward for the County’s 100th Anniversary Celebration, Muir was also chosen by the Broward Cultural Division to document the county’s milestone festivities.
His 2012 photo art collection, Pieces of Jamaica®, was critically acclaimed and led to national and international exhibition tours. Works from the exhibition were published as a coffee table book titled Pieces of Jamaica®: The Real Rock Edition. The book features vivid photographs capturing Jamaica’s rustic reality, revealing the island’s spirited humanity and the intrinsic beauty found in its people. Muir, and his book were honored by the Jamaican Government for contribution to Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary of Independence Celebration in 2012.
With this second edition of Pieces of Jamaica®: Jamrock Edition, Muir is poised to create the quintessential Jamaican photo collection of our time.
