As part of an annual initiative to commemorate Jamaica’s emancipation, the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) organizes year-long events and activities in recognition of various aspects of the island’s history, culture and national development. The theme for Jamaica’s 60th Independence anniversary is “Reigniting a Nation for Greatness” and will include guest artists, celebrated events and several surprises over the course of the year. Some events might include the Jamaica Visual Arts Competition, Jamaica Creative Writing Competition, Jamaica Culinary Arts Competition, and National Festival of the Arts, as well as various conferences, workshops and television events within the year.
